Catenation Carbon

Tom is a scientist and he is testing the reactivity of carbon compounds. Tom has a box, with N partitions. These partitions are located along a straight line at positions x1,….,xN . His C carbon compounds are to be placed in these partitions. To prevent catenation, Tom wants to assign these compounds to the partitions, such that the minimum distance between any two of them is as large as possible.
